Character interview – Greyson from Dark (Stronghold #1)

As part of my blog tour for Dark, I thought you might enjoy this character interview with Greyson Dark, the Sentry:

1. How did you first meet your writer?

I heard a strange noise in my woods. When I finally tracked it down, I found a woman typing furiously on her laptop under a tree. A bug was crawling up her leg, but she didn’t even notice. The sound of the keyboard drove me crazy until I got her to stop and go back to her house. The noise isn’t as irritating when she’s behind closed doors.

2. Did you ever think that your life would end up being in a book?

No. Not a chance. As a Sentry, my duty is to protect Earth. I never imagined anyone would want to read about me. It’s still very disconcerting, but Eva tells me that I must suck it up. Public relations, and all that.

3. What are your favorite scenes in your book: the action, the dialog or the romance?

A true hero doesn’t kiss and tell.

4. Do you infiltrate your writer’s dreams?

Well, yes. It’s only fair. All that typing, for weeks and weeks was enough to make me lose my mind. I couldn’t sleep until she finally typed The End. She deserves to have me stomping around in her head, if only for a night or two.

5. What do you like to do when you are not being actively read somewhere?

I turn back into a pumpkin.

6. What is your least favorite characteristic your writer has attributed to you?

She tells me I’m cranky. I’m not. Ask anyone. I prefer to think of myself as goal-oriented.

7. Do have any secret aspirations that your author doesn’t know about?

To get her to stop writing me into her damn sequels. She can write about my brothers all she wants, but why do I have to appear in those novels, too?

8. What do you do for a living?

I protect Earth from the alien Spiders.

9. What do you wear when you go to sleep?

People wear things for sleeping? Why would anyone do that?

10. What turns you on?

Eva.

11. What turns you off?

Eva’s mother.

Greyson Dark doesn’t like strangers in his territory.

Eva Waverley doesn’t like being told to keep out.

After her father’s suicide, hiking is the only thing that makes the bullying in Eva’s new school bearable. When Greyson rescues her from a tumble, she falls for him despite his autocratic demeanor. She’s leaving for college soon—what does it matter if she crushes on a man everyone else fears?

Greyson suspects Eva is his true mate, but duty demands he remain aloof. She doesn’t know he’s a long-lived Sentry, sworn to protect Earth from the Spiders, an ancient alien menace. When she leaves for college, he’s relieved, but four years later she comes back, all grown up and more gorgeous than ever.

Greyson can’t afford to care for a mortal woman, no matter how compelling. Hackers are attacking Stronghold, the Sentries’ net, and Spiders are swarming beyond the moon, but when Eva is attacked, he discovers he can’t just let her die…

Be Warned: anal sex.

Manic Readers

Rating: 4 stars!

Dark by Erin M. Leaf is first in the Stronghold series. I found myself just as fascinated by Greyson as Eva was. He was strong but silent, grouchy but sensitive, not to mention smokin’ hot. Seeing the pain his father suffered at the loss of his mate has made not only Greyson but his brothers determined to remain alone. However, Eva isn’t willing to let Greyson make the choice for her, her childhood crush has grown into something much more substantial and she will fight for a chance. Learning just what Greyson is protecting Earth from, leaves her down but not out, and I could do nothing but respect her willingness to make a stand even if it may cost her more than she can afford to lose.

I thought Ms. Leaf gave us a wonderful new series. I thought the book was well written complete with a feisty female lead. I enjoyed her interaction with Greyson and found myself rooting for her success. I am so looking forward to seeing what Ms. Leaf has in store for Greyson’s brothers.
