Wicked Wednesday with C.R. Moss

1. If your characters could pick a food to play with in the bedroom, what would they use?

For the characters in Lovers and the Fiend, they’d probably pick sundae items…chocolate to drizzle on the skin, whipped cream to top things off, cherries to feed each other, ice cream to spread along the contours of their bodies…

2. How old were you the first time you read a romance novel? Erotica?

Romance novels: In my teens. I read some teenage romances. Guess they’d be considered YA now. Then in my mid-twenties a friend gave me A Knight in Shining Armor to read & that’s when I got hooked on romances. As for erotica, does some of the material in VC Andrews’ books count? Like Flowers in the Attic? Read that in eighth grade. Other erotica, well since I took a Literature and Sexuality course in college that’d be in my early twenties.

3. What is your favorite romance genre to read? Why? (Paranormal, sci-fi, contemporary, MM, menage, etc.)

Any really. I have an eclectic taste. 🙂

4. What’s hotter for the hero: long-hair, short, or bald? Why?

I like a length between long and short, not so long that he competes against the length of my hair & looks like a chick from behind, but something long enough to be able to grab hold of in intimate situations. 😉

5. When is your favorite time of day to write? Where is your favorite place to write? (Morning, evening, bed, playground, etc.)

Time of day: Afternoons on good days but lately ~ late at night. My muse seems to love getting inspired around 11 pm and keeping me up. Where? Depends upon the time of year and if my office is clean or not. During the warmer months, I take a notebook and pen down to the pool and sit poolside and write. Or I go sit on my back porch. Otherwise I’m in my office if it’s clean. If it’s not, then I’m on my laptop on the couch in the living room.

6. Bonus question! Do your characters use birth control (i.e. condoms) and if so, how do you make the mechanics of it sexy?

If the publishing house requires it, yes. I keep the mechanics of it as short and sweet as possible so as to not detract from the scene.

7. Tell us about your latest release or what you’re working on now.

Today I’m here to tout my latest C.R. Moss release, Lovers and the Fiend.

Lovers and the Fiend is a story in Evernight Publishing’s Naughty Fairy Tale line. The characters, Jack and Kristina, appeared in my short story – Chasing Miss Kringle – that’s in an Evernight Publishing anthology – Stockings and Suspenders. This is the first of a handful of stories I have planned for the NFT line that revolve around the world started in CMK and Lovers. You don’t have to read the anthology story to read Lovers, but it’d be nice if you did. 😉

Blurb:

Ex-cop turned private investigator, Jack Vorst, learns his elf girlfriend Kristina has been missing for a few days after being invited to an underground vampire club. He, too, is summoned to visit club Hexenringe and is taken captive. Jack finds Kristina bound and gagged in a human sized bird cage. They’re both thrust into a kinky world at the hands of Kol, the club owner. Kol, a vampiric beast, shifts into human form to be with Jack and Kristina and needs them to remember their pasts and to love him so he can return to what he used to be. Can Kol make the pair fall in love with him despite his current situation and the fact he’s keeping them captive or will they leave, making it too late for him to change all their fates?

Warning: ménage a trios, M/M, bondage, anal sex, sex toys, public exhibition

1. If your characters could pick a food to play with in the bedroom, what would they use?

I haven’t given the use of food in ‘bedroom scenes’ much thought. I think my characters are much too interested in ‘playing’ with one another in the bedroom and not food. (wicked grin)

2. How old were you the first time you read a romance novel? Erotica?

Fifteen, I believe…Johanna Lindsey’s Until Forever. I haven’t read any erotica. Karen Moning’s Fever series is probably the closest, but still not what others would consider erotica.

3. What is your favorite romance genre to read? Why? (Paranormal, sci-fi, contemporary, MM, menage, etc.)

Historical, but generally anything that will get me out of todays world 🙂

4. What’s hotter for the hero: long-hair, short, or bald? Why?

Hmmm…I think long, it gives him a rougher appeal. Short isn’t bad either. When I think of short, a rough and tuff soldier with a high-and-tight comes to mind. Don’t think I could do bald though, makes me think of an old man.

5. When is your favorite time of day to write? Where is your favorite place to write? (Morning, evening, bed, playground, etc.)

I love getting up in the morning around 4:30-5 A.M. Husband is gone to work and the kid is still asleep and I have perfect quiet. Usually I would write at my desk in my office, but we are transitioning into a new home at the time. So until the office is ready, my computer is in a corner on a tote, lol.

6. Bonus question! Do your characters use birth control (i.e. condoms) and if so, how do you make the mechanics of it sexy?

My first two books, this doesn’t apply to. However, I have a WIP in which I considered having my heroine use birth control. They are in a situation where having a condom on hand, much less thinking to use it, just wouldn’t work. However, I decided for her to go without. I think it would have killed the scene if ‘she’ had brought it up.

7. Tell us about your latest release or what you’re working on now.

Bound To A Highlander will release in April. I’m very excited to see this book accepted by Evernight. The novel was actually written before I submitted The Pursuit for Love, but still needed some work. BTAH received much criticism from other agents and editors because the hero handfasts the woman accused of killing his brother. Of course, he only does this because he believes she’s guilty and thinks to punish her himself – a task he finds harder than expected 🙂

As for right now, I’ve begun an exciting new series. It’s my first contemporary. I finished Perfect Stranger a week ago and began edits this week. I’m really excited for this one too. This book is very different for me not only because it is contemporary, but it is a novella. I’ve never written anything under 90k. I’m interested to see how it does.

1. If your characters could pick a food to play with in the bedroom, what would they use?

Whip cream and chocolate sauce.

2. How old were you the first time you read a romance novel? Erotica?

Cheeky. LOL. I was old enough and that is all you’re getting 🙂

3. What is your favorite romance genre to read? Why? (Paranormal, sci-fi, contemporary, MM, menage, etc.)

I love so many. I read all of them as I don’t think leaving any genre out is fair. I’m always willing to read.

4. What’s hotter for the hero: long-hair, short, or bald? Why?

You’re sure giving me hard questions. I think it depends on the hero as to what is hotter. I read a book not long ago where the hero was bald and I thought it was hot.

So, it all comes down to the story and the characters as to what is hot and not.

5. When is your favorite time of day to write? Where is your favorite place to write? (Morning, evening, bed, playground, etc.)

I’ve actually got my small area set up with plenty of inspiration. I write in the mornings and through lunch time where I most often forget to eat.

When I’m editing, I love doing it away from my office and anywhere I can.

6. Bonus question! Do your characters use birth control (i.e. condoms) and if so, how do you make the mechanics of it sexy?

I use condoms sometimes and I try to spice it up by getting the hero to order the woman to put it on. Sometimes I forget because sex in the heat of the moment can be spoiled by remembering to put on protection.

Again, this one all comes down to the story and characters. Sometimes a condom fits the story whereas other stories don’t.

Sam Crescent is passionate about fiction. She loves a good erotic romance and so it only made sense for her to spread her wings and start writing. She began writing in 2009 and finally got that first acceptance in 2011.

She loves creating new characters and delving into the worlds that she creates. When she’s not panicking about a story or arguing with a character, she can be found in her kitchen creating all kinds of havoc. Like her stories the creations in the kitchen can be just as dubious but sometimes things turn out great.

1. If your characters could pick a food to play with in the bedroom, what would they use?

I just finished writing a food play scene, and my characters got carried away with ice cream and whisky soaked, maraschino cherries. They both ended up sweet, sticky, and very satisfied. (and the kitchen floor was a wreck too!)

2. How old were you the first time you read a romance novel? Erotica?

I think I swiped my mom’s first romance novel before I was ten, but I didn’t discover erotica until my best friend heard me complaining that the books I was reading always faded to black at the “good parts.” She laughed and introduced me to erotic romances.

3. What is your favorite romance genre to read? Why? (Paranormal, sci-fi, contemporary, MM, menage, etc.)

I think it would have to be paranormal, but I love them all, it just depends on my mood and what new releases are out.

4. What’s hotter for the hero: long-hair, short, or bald? Why?

I spent my formative years around police officers and firemen, and so I have a thing for men with very short hair. (And guys in uniform too)

5. When is your favorite time of day to write? Where is your favorite place to write? (Morning, evening, bed, playground, etc.)

I seem to find my writing zone in the afternoon, that’s when I get the majority of my work done. I’ve never been a morning person, so it makes sense that I can’t really get creative until I’ve had at least two cups of coffee and a shower!  My office is my preferred writing space. It’s the one spot in the house that’s allowed to be messy and it’s filled with all my favorite things.

6. Bonus question! Do your characters use birth control (i.e. condoms) and if so, how do you make the mechanics of it sexy?

I tend to vary it from book to book, but in general my characters “try” to remember, they just don’t always succeed in the heat of the moment.

7. Tell us about your latest release or what you’re working on now.

I have a new paranormal erotic romance series coming up, and the first book, Saved by Sin, was released December 18th, 2012. The series is going to revolve around a group of retired military men and women who all work for a security firm. When the supernatural threatens one of their clients, they’re going to start learning more than they ever imagined about the things that go bump in the night.

Saved by Sin is Michelle & Sinjin’s story:   Security consultant Sinjin Heath is on leave while he recovers from a failed mission. When Michelle Jamieson arrives to take refuge in the cabin next door, he finds himself back in the protection business whether he’s ready or not. Michelle’s dead ex-boyfriend is haunting her, and the ghost wants to claim her, body and soul.

1. If your characters could pick a food to play with in the bedroom, what would they use?

Ohh, that would completely depend on which characters in which story — but for my story in Evernight’s Vanilla-Free Christmas — it would be strawberries and chocolate syrup.

2. How old were you the first time you read a romance novel? Erotica?

I discovered a joy in reading about the time I started high school — with an historical romance novel. I devoured the genre almost exclusively for years. My love of erotica didn’t come till even later–about the time I discovered “”adult” online role play. I wanted to write a romance novel and I was having trouble writing the sex scenes, so I dropped into a Gorean chat room thinking it would have role played sexual interludes I could read. I got a quick education in both BDSM and erotica.

3. What is your favorite romance genre to read? Why? (Paranormal, sci-fi, contemporary, MM, menage, etc.)

I think my favorite to read is still the historicals — I was weaned on them, you know? Though I do have to say a steamy paranormal romance come a close second.

4. What’s hotter for the hero: long-hair, short, or bald? Why?

I prefer men shaved bald. I think it started with Stone Cold Steve Austin to be completely honest. I had such a crush on him. Mmm mmm. I also have a weakness for men with facial hair. I’ve never dated a man without it in my life. Go figure.

5. When is your favorite time of day to write? Where is your favorite place to write? (Morning, evening, bed, playground, etc.)

I work full time and am not really a morning person, so I HAVE to write in the evenings during the week. On the weekends, I tend to start in the afternoon, take a short break after a few hours and then hit things again for a bit in the evening. I don’t have a private place to write, really, so I sit on the bed in my room and settle the laptop on my thighs. It’s comfy, though I’m sorta making a bum hole in the mattress.

6. Bonus question! Do your characters use birth control (i.e. condoms) and if so, how do you make the mechanics of it sexy?

I’ve not written birth control into my stories. When I wrote my first one, I did have more than a few comments about that, but I think of it as something implied in the story. It’s like a woman’s cycle — you never hear about that in a story either, but it still happens to every woman.

7. Tell us about your latest release or what you’re working on now.

I’ve had the fortune of three releases in December 2012. The first being my short in Evernight’s Vanilla-Free Christmas Anthology. The second is my erotic short, Routine Maintenance, which is included in Felt Tips, a charity anthology of office supply themed erotica. All proceeds go toward buying school supplies for kids and work clothes for adults trying to find work. This one was the brain child of the esteemed erotic romance author, Tiffany Reisz. (Good stuff!)

The last of my releases (for now) is Blood and Fire, an erotic horror short being released by MuseItUp Publishing on the 28th. All of the stories have BDSM and D/s elements to them. Write what you know, right?

Wicked Wednesday with Lila Shaw

ShawSS   ShawSOTS1M   ShawSG1M   ShawVATP1M

1. If your characters could pick a food to play with in the bedroom, what would they use?

My characters are rather fond of eclairs…squeeze the cream filling out into exotic locales for licking, then fill the empty eclair with something else (use your imagination). Lick off chocolate first then slowly nibble the outer pastry bits away until the new inner filling is discovered.

2. How old were you the first time you read a romance novel? Erotica?

I think I was in my mid-teens when I discovered the gothic romances of Victoria Holt, Phyllis Whitney and Mary Stewart. After that I moved on to Harlequin, all sweet romances, because they were cheap and easily found in vast quantities in my library. The “hard core” stuff (Rosemary Rogers et. al. who is really not so hard core compared to what I read now) was problematic, not because of the content but because the covers were so in your face bodice rippers and embarrassing. I’m a rather private person, so I really didn’t start to read erotica until I got my Kindle and discovered the wealth of ebooks out there.

3. What is your favorite romance genre to read? Why? (Paranormal, sci-fi, contemporary, MM, menage, etc.)

I love contemporary and historical the best, but I’ll read paranormal too, sci-fi if it’s steampunk more so than studly aliens. Those kind of weird me out. I have not yet developed a taste for menage or M/M.

4. What’s hotter for the hero: long-hair, short, or bald? Why?

I’d go with short hair, then bald, then long. Long hair seems too Zoolander or Wayne and Garth to me–take your pick of either extreme. Bald is in your face aggressive, which can be hot, but I like an alpha in beta’s clothing, which means he’s bald on the inside, but conservatively shorn on the outside. Rawrrr!!

5. When is your favorite time of day to write? Where is your favorite place to write? (Morning, evening, bed, playground, etc.)

I like to write in the morning before the rest of my family wakes up. I’m naturally an early bird. That’s when I also exercise too. I start to conk out around 9 PM. I have an office I use to do 99% of my writing, though I occasionally write on my lunch break at work or on my netbook while watching TV with the Silverback (husband).

6. Bonus question! Do your characters use birth control (i.e. condoms) and if so, how do you make the mechanics of it sexy?

Unless they are paranormal (which all my succubus ladies are), they use condoms in their first sexual encounters. I don’t bother trying to make it sexy. I go more for making it quick and unobtrusive OR I build it into the story as a sign of intimacy. I had one couple discuss getting tested after the sex scene as a way to show how much commitment they’d developed to each other. Sounds dry when dissected but it worked in the story pretty well as I’ve had readers comment on how they liked the frank discussions the characters had.
7. Tell us about your latest release or what you’re working on now.

My latest stand alone release is Succubus Games but I have a short story in the Vanilla-Free Christmas anthology from Evernight.

[Editor’s note: Succubus Steam is out!] I’ve contracted for another succubus story in Evernight’s Romance on the Go line called “Succubus Steam” tentatively scheduled for release in January 2013. This will be the third in “The Succubus Chronicles”, a collection of unrelated erotic romances about succubi in different settings and time periods. I love writing about succubi and also have a collection of horror shorts about them I plan to self-publish (because horror erotica is a tough sell with publishers, especially in a collection). I also have several more succubus romances planned, probably ROTG length as well.

FloresSidewalk-Flower cover

1. If your characters could pick a food to play with in the bedroom, what would they use?

Funny you should ask…Trista and Lucky have this thing for a Mexican snack cake dessert called a Gansito.  It’s all kinds of chocolate, strawberry and creamy filling yumminess.  And it fits in the palm of your hand which makes for easy feeding to each other!

2. How old were you the first time you read a romance novel? Erotica?

Sorry Grandma, but the cat is out of the bag…I was probably about nine or ten when I read my first romance novel.  But then there was this really long dry spell and I didn’t read another until about five years ago.  Now I’m eternally hooked.

3. What is your favorite romance genre to read? Why? (Paranormal, sci-fi, contemporary, MM, menage, etc.)

I love reading paranormal romance.  The myth and extraordinary worlds paranormal books can take you to are fabulous, but what I really love is how they allow for so much tragedy and then redemption.  I love those ones.

4. What’s hotter for the hero: long-hair, short, or bald? Why?

Oh no!  Do I really have to choose?  Three hot cuties just popped into mind for each…Bald-Theo Rossi, Short- Tom Hardy, Long—My Lucky from Sidewalk Flower. I will try and make a case for long hair…When your hero is leaning over you, don’t you want to see it hanging in his face and then have the excuse to sweep it back and tuck it behind his ear or leave it be to tickle your nose?  Hmm??

5. When is your favorite time of day to write? Where is your favorite place to write? (Morning, evening, bed, playground, etc.)

I love the night.  But unfortunately, I’m a sleepy head, early to bed kind of girl.  So, this means I do most of my writing during the day, in my bedroom that I’ve made as dark as I possibly can and sometimes with a blanket over my head and laptop.

6. Bonus question! Do your characters use birth control (i.e. condoms) and if so, how do you make the mechanics of it sexy?

Sure they do!  I personally think it’s sexiest when they’re shy about how to put the condom on, or it’s a “let me help you with that” kind of situation.  Of course then there’s Mother Nature’s birth control.  Trista is still upset with the powers that be and their horrible timing with what happened in Sidewalk Flower just as she and Lucky were about to be intimate for the first time.  But it gave Lucky the chance to be the gentleman she desperately needed.  I think that was sexy.
7. Tell us about your latest release or what you’re working on now.

Sure!  Sidewalk Flower was just released on January 11th by Evernight Publishing and it’s about a jaded young woman, Trista, who sets out on an intense road trip home to deal with her past when she is asked to allow a relative stranger to tag along.

But, she’s seen too many good guys succumb to the harsh realities of her supposed privileged life in the music business and intends on keeping her distance.

When she picks up Lucky, the southern gentleman cousin of her selfish best friend, she has absolutely no idea of how to accept a perfectly good person with good intentions.  Home has never looked so good, or felt so far away.
