Alpha Shaman – Bad Oak Boys #2 teaser excerpt!

Releasing December 30, 2015!

The world isn’t ready for a rock star werewolf, but Josh Oakley can’t stop biology. When his brother sends sexy wolf shaman Gerwulf to help him, instinct is too mild a word for how he feels. Gerwulf calls to his animal in a way that defies logic.

Gerwulf knows Josh is his mate the moment they meet, but he doesn’t like guys and he doesn’t intend to bond with anyone. He’ll help the musician control his wolf, but getting too close isn’t his intention. Besides, he wouldn’t know what to do with a man in his bed.

Of course, shifters can’t dodge fate—a crisis forces Josh and Gerwulf to accept their connection just in time to save Forst Pack from an old enemy. When biology ties them together beyond even a mating bond, will they be able to move past their fear and into a future that holds more than they ever expected?

(Gay Romance, Shifters, Paranormal, Erotic Romance, Mpreg)

Story Excerpt:

Josh needed to taste Gerwulf, right the fuck now. He’d gone from confusion over his intense attraction to this wolf and straight into need. It felt right to desire this man. It felt like that unattainable connection he’d been searching for, all through the years of writing love songs and fucking random men and women on the road. “I’m going to kiss you, Gerwulf. You don’t get to say no.” His wolf growled, wanting him to get on with it. Mate.

Gerwulf stared at him, eyes dark as old whiskey. “You shouldn’t be doing this, especially not now. Your instinct to shift is confusing your libido.” He reached out and grabbed Josh’s arms, pressing his fingers into his skin as if he was afraid Josh was going to take off.

Confusing me? As if. I’m not the one hanging on for dear life. This guy is mine, even if he doesn’t realize it yet. Josh let himself enjoy the pain of the Shaman’s grip. He hadn’t expected to feel attraction like this, ever. Hell, he hadn’t expected to shift into a wolf either, but the moment Gerwulf showed up at his door, his desire for both things had grown stronger and stronger. “Your hands tell me a different story, Gerwulf.” He moved in and pressed his aching cock right into the Shaman’s hip. The man was built solid. Josh ground against him, desperate to feel a response.

“We shouldn’t be doing this,” Gerwulf said, voice cracking on the last word. His fingers flexed on Josh’s biceps. A minute tremble told Josh the Shaman wasn’t as unaffected as he tried to appear. Instead of pushing him away, Gerwulf pulled him closer.

Josh smiled, all teeth. “I’m going to shift, I promise you, but you need to let me in first.” He inhaled, savoring the warm spice scent that drifted from Gerwulf’s skin. “You smell fucking fantastic.” He leaned in and put his lips on Gerwulf’s neck. God, he wanted to bite him. Was this what it had been like for his brother? Maybe being a wolf wouldn’t be so bad.

Gerwulf trembled and dug his fingers into Josh’s arms. “I’m a Shaman. I’ll be Forst Pack’s Alpha-Shaman someday. Your wolf recognizes my power. That’s all this is.”

My cock recognizes your extreme sexiness. Josh laughed, going along with Gerwulf’s delusion that he was doing this because of some paranormal status woo-woo. “Yeah, whatever.”

Gerwulf opened his legs slightly, slotting them together more closely. “You don’t understand what’s happening.” He sounded disturbed.

Josh forced himself to lean back. He wanted to take a bite out of this man, God help him, but he didn’t want to hurt him. “You’ve never been with a guy before, have you?”

“What?” Gerwulf’s eyes widened, and he shook his head. “How did you know that?” He moved his hands to Josh’s wrists, trapping his arms against his flanks, as if that would hold him off. “Not that it matters. That’s not what this is about.”

“Don’t worry. It’s not as scary as you think.” Josh leaned in again, nosing along Gerwulf’s jaw. He took his time. This particular moment would never happen again. “We have the same plumbing. The same needs.” He wanted their first kiss to be explosive. He shoved down the niggling worry in his mind that told him he’d forgotten something extremely important. His wolf was happy. His dick was happy. Gerwulf wasn’t pulling away. What could be wrong? He’d deal with the shifting problem later. “It doesn’t have to mean anything, Gerwulf. It’s not like we’re getting married.”

“You have no idea what kind of fire you’re playing with,” Gerwulf said, hips jerking slightly. His erection, still trapped in his pants, slid across Josh’s nude cock, making them both moan.

“You’re playing with the same flame, Shaman,” Josh said, once he’d gotten control of his voice back. His dick had never before been so hard just from light foreplay.

Gerwulf flushed. “Nothing about this is normal.”

Josh groaned. “You’re sexy and hot. This is perfectly normal. You may not have fucked a man before, but I have. I’m bi and totally fine with it.” He paused. “Don’t worry. I won’t hurt you. I don’t want to scare you off.”

“For Christ’s sake.” Gerwulf let out an explosive breath. “This has everything to do with you being a wolf, Josh. Listen to me.” He shook Josh slightly. “I’m an Alpha-Shaman. You’re a Beta. Our wolves are confusing power and status with sex.”

Josh blinked, trying to force his arousal-soaked brain to function. “You think I want you because you’re a Shaman?” He chuckled. “No.”

“Yes,” Gerwulf insisted.

His mouth says one thing, but his body says another. Josh wrestled with himself. He would not force Gerwulf to do anything he truly didn’t want to do, despite what he’d said. But I want one good kiss before I step away.

“Fuck this.” He leaned in and kissed Gerwulf. Immediately, the Shaman opened his mouth, letting Josh’s tongue inside. “Christ, you taste like the forest,” Josh said, shuddering. He suckled Gerwulf’s bottom lip, then dove in again. “I can’t get enough of you.” His mind felt white-hot and crazy, with his wolf howling and growling. His cock was so stiff it hurt. He wanted to take Gerwulf up against the wall. He wanted to bite him and mark him and not look back.

Goodness! I didn’t realize how long it had been since I updated my work-in-progress page. Good news! Book two of Bad Oak Boys is coming soon! Alpha Shaman is set to be released in January 2016!

More good news! I am revising book three of Bad Oak Boys, Wulfgang, right now and will be sending it off to my publisher in the next week or so. Hopefully, this book will be released soon after Alpha Shaman. Even better, I have a rough outline of book four in the series, tentatively titled Shifter Spy, and will be writing it soon. I’m planning on finishing that book by the end of January (yes, I’m a little ambitious).

After that, I’m planning on working on the next Stronghold book. It’s gonna be a busy winter!

Chapter One Excerpt

“You did what?” Bardulf asked his little sister, trying to make sense of what she’d just told him. Her silky blonde hair slid over her shoulder and across her cheeks as she made a pouty face at him. Bardulf resisted the urge to tuck it behind her ears. She was sixteen now and would probably bite him if he tried it. Sometimes he forgot she was growing up. And sometimes I want to pretend she’s still that little girl with the pigtails who drove me crazy when I was a teenager. Her being grown up makes me feel old. He pushed his mug of coffee toward the center of the old wooden table. The caffeine he’d already drunk sloshed in his stomach uncomfortably.

“Well, Dad went all Alpha on me and wouldn’t let me go to the concert, so I put your name on the prize form instead,” Faylen said, bouncing a little on her heels. “He said I didn’t have enough control of my wolf form yet to not lose it if I get excited.” She rolled her eyes. “As if I’d shift in front of humans! In an arena! Ugh. Dad can be such a fossil.” She flung herself down into the chair next to him and tossed the envelope she’d carried into the room on the table. “He’s been impossible lately. I heard him yelling at Mom this morning. Again.”

Bardulf rubbed his forehead. When that didn’t ease his newly blooming tension headache, he gave her a stern look, not that it would do much good. For such a small person, she certainly knew how to create giant problems. “You want me to kiss Ryan Oakley, lead singer of Bad Oak, because you won some fan club contest? At a concert? In front of a thousand people? Are you crazy?”

“It’s backstage, not in front of the audience, Bardulf.” Faylen poked at his arm. “And if I can’t go, you’re the next best thing. You’re gay, so you won’t mind kissing a guy. Plus, you’re Alpha-Heir, so Dad can’t forbid you to go.”

Bardulf choked back an incredulous laugh. “Dad is still pack leader. If he says jump, I jump. Doesn’t matter if I’m heir, little wolf.” He ran his hands through his short hair, then rubbed his face again.

“Don’t call me that,” she grumbled.

“That’s what your name means,” he said, hoping that the change of subject would work. No such luck, he realized as his sister opened her mouth again.

“Yeah, well yours means ‘bright wolf’, but you don’t see me calling you stupid names, even if your hair is super-blond.” She poked him in the arm again, harder this time.

Bardulf winced and grabbed her fingers. “Stop that.”

She ignored him, pulling away from his grasp. “It sucks that you got the pretty hair, and I got this ordinary light-brown stuff.” She lifted a shining strand from her shoulder and wound it around her finger. “Also, don’t think I can’t tell you’re trying to change the subject.”

Bardulf shook his head. “I’m not going to a Bad Oak concert. And your hair is gorgeous and you know it. It’s only a little darker than mine. Stop fishing for compliments.”

Faylen dropped her hair and grabbed the manila envelope from the kitchen table. Obviously, she’d decided to cut to the chase. “Yes, you are going.” She shoved the paper against his chest. The corner poked through his sweater into his skin, and Bardulf shifted his weight irritably. His inner wolf was beginning to take notice of Faylen’s antics, and he wasn’t amused.

Predictably, his sister brushed off his growing annoyance. “The itinerary is all there. You just have to show up at the back door.” She grinned widely. “Ryan Oakley is super hot. Kissing him will be awesome, and you know it. The only reason you don’t want to go is because you’re getting old and crotchety.”

“I’m only twenty-three, Faylen. Give me a break,” Bardulf growled, automatically catching the papers when she let go. “I hate New York. It’s smelly. And there are too many people there. Too many humans. It makes me want to bite things.”

“It’s only a couple hours from us, sheesh. Stop being such a baby.” Faylen rolled her eyes at him.

He glared at her, tipping back in his chair. “I can’t drop everything just because you won a silly contest.”

Faylen’s lips pulled back, and she growled low in her throat. “It’s not silly. I’ve wanted to meet Ryan Oakley since, like, forever, and I can’t go because Dad is being stupid.” She crossed her arms and glared sulkily at him.

Bardulf cocked his head, keeping a firm rein on his instincts. His wolf wanted to smack the petulance from his younger sister, but his human side could tell she was truly upset about not being able to go. She just covered it up well with bravado. “Why is it so important to you that I go in your place? I’m sure one of your friends would jump at the chance,” he said gently.

She stared at him, then suddenly turned away. “It would kill me if Martha or Susie got to go instead of me. It’s my ticket. I won it, and I don’t want them to have it. They’d talk about it for months!”

He sighed, then put a hand on her thin shoulder and tugged. For all her physical maturity she was still very young inside, especially for a werewolf. “In case you forgot, I’m a male. Ryan Oakley might not appreciate having to kiss a dude, you know.”

She let him pull her into an awkward hug, and that calmed his inner beast. From the way her shoulders relaxed, the closeness calmed hers, too. Family units were very tight in the pack. He stroked her hair and let their wilder instincts settle down.

“It doesn’t say anything about the kisser having to be a girl,” she mumbled into his chest after a minute.

He wrinkled his nose. “You could just send a ‘thanks, but no thanks’ note. There’s no real reason for me to go to the city.”

Faylen pulled back. “Uh-uh. No way. You need to get away from the house anyway. I can smell your wolf getting more and more restless as the months go by. This will be good for you.” She tapped at the envelope they’d crushed between them. “This is your ticket out of here,” she said melodramatically.

Bardulf grimaced. “That doesn’t mean I should take off for the biggest city on the east coast.” He stood up and put the envelope back on the table in front of her. “I can always go for a run,” he murmured, thinking about how good it would feel to slip out of his human skin for a few hours. He walked to the window. Twilight had come and gone since they’d begun talking, and now the meadow beyond the kitchen was dark. Alluring. His wolf pushed at the inside of his skull, wanting him to go out into the wilderness. He needed to shift. He needed to run.

“You need to find your mate, Bardulf,” Faylen said softly.

His spine went tense. “You know that the likelihood of my finding a compatible gay werewolf is almost zero, Faylen. And Dad isn’t going to appreciate me bringing home a stray male. He wants heirs, remember? You need to stop provoking him, sis. Dad’s got a lot on his plate with the Council meeting this year.” Bardulf didn’t want to talk about this. He knew she worried about him. Hell, he could feel the entire pack’s worry, but it wasn’t like he could do a damn thing about it. He was gay. He was alpha. Most likely he would go mad from trying to lead the pack when his father stepped down while ignoring his own nature, but if that was the price he had to pay to keep his wolves safe, he would gladly do so. He shook his head, dismissing that train of thought. He just needed some fresh air. He began to strip out of his clothes. “I need to run.”

“You’re going to be Alpha, brother. You don’t need a run, you need a mate.” She stepped up to the window and tapped on the glass. “And you won’t find one out in the woods.”

****

Ryan Oakley frowned at his band’s manager and publicist. “Wait, what? The girl who won backed out of the ‘Win a Kiss’ contest?” He shook his head, confused. This had never happened before, not since they’d begun doing the kissing promo a few years ago. His band, Bad Oak, usually had to fight off fans everywhere they went. Having a legitimate contest winner cancel a meet-and-greet, especially when it involved a kiss, was unheard of. “Is she sick?”

Charlie shrugged. “She said her father wouldn’t let her come, so she’s sending her older brother in her place.” He shifted closer to the wall as three men rolled equipment out to the stage, and Ryan moved with him. The noise level was slowly increasing as the arena filled with fans. They had one more show here tonight, and then they headed for New York to do their special acoustic show in the Theater at Madison Square Garden. Ryan was looking forward to it. He loved touring and he loved their regular shows, but once in a while it felt good to quiet things down and show the critics that Bad Oak had more to offer than wailing guitars and massive percussion. Not that there’s anything wrong with wailing guitars and huge drumbeats, he thought.

“His name is Bardulf Forst,” Charlie continued, reading information off of his cell phone. “Huh. Says here he’s blond, blue-eyed, and available, as if we need to know that information.” He laughed. “The girl told us she’d make him wear a red shirt so he’d be easy to pick out. Sounds like she’s got her older brother wrapped around her little finger.” He looked up, grinning. “That’s cute.”

“See, this is where I get really confused. She’s sending her brother? Not her sister or a girlfriend?” Ryan rubbed his eyes, wishing he’d gotten more sleep last night. He was too tired to make sense of this. He slumped against the painted cinderblock wall and let the hard edges dig into his shoulder blades. Maybe the pain would wake him up.

“Well, you always insisted that the contest should be an equal opportunity promo event,” Charlie said, tucking his cell into his pocket.

Ryan rolled his eyes. “I meant it shouldn’t have an age limit. I seriously didn’t think any dudes would want to kiss me.” He scratched at the stubble on his cheek.

Charlie grinned wider. “Really? You are so naïve, which is hilarious for a rock star. You have a ton of gay fans.”

Ryan shrugged. “Yeah, but this contest mainly draws teenage girls.” He glanced down the hallway. He had to wrap this up if he wanted to have any time to warm up his voice.

“Doesn’t matter. The entry is still valid. In two nights’ time, you’ll be kissing Mr. Forst.” Charlie smirked. “I can’t wait.”

“Can’t Josh do it this time?” Ryan asked, not sure why he felt so uneasy. It was just a silly little kiss. Yeah, he was straight, but one kiss wasn’t going to kill him. And it wasn’t like he hadn’t fooled around with guys before. He’d even gone so far as to exchange blowjobs with a groupie a couple of years ago, so it wasn’t like he was squeamish about dudes or anything. And you swore off random hookups last year, remember? This will mean nothing.

“It’s your turn, Ryan,” Josh said, holding his two guitars over his head so they wouldn’t bang into anything. “I did the kiss thing last time, remember? And it was that sixty-year-old grandma who insisted on Frenchingme, dear God. I was traumatized for weeks. So, no weaseling out of this. It’s bad for our image, big brother.”

Ryan sighed and gave in. “Yeah, okay. Whatever. Set it up, Charlie.” He clapped their manager on his back and headed to his dressing room. He didn’t have the energy to worry about what might happen two days from now. He had a show to do in twenty minutes.

Story Excerpt:

Bardulf liked Ryan Oakley, a lot, and he usually didn’t like humans all that much. He didn’t dislike them; he just preferred not to get tangled up in too much humanity. It was dangerous for shifters and humans to mingle. However, his wolf liked Ryan Oakley, and that was downright disturbing. All his instincts screamed mine at him every time he glanced at the singer.

What the fuck was going on? He took a deep breath, letting the scent of the man tease at him. Ryan smelled like wood and wire and all the stuff that goes along with playing a finely crafted electric instrument, with an added little touch of “bad boy” flavor on top. Ryan smelled like someone he already knew, as if his essence had been hardwired into Bardulf’s psyche, and that was incredibly fucked up. His wolf growled softly at him, prodding him into moving closer.

“If you don’t want to do the kissing thing, I’m okay with that,” he offered quietly.

Ryan’s eyes widened a fraction. Bardulf watched the man’s pupils expand until the black almost swallowed the bright whiskey brown irises. He ached to run his hands through Ryan’s tousled dark hair. It just touched the man’s shoulders. It looked like sable. Jesus, he had it bad. He wanted to adjust his cock, but figured that would be a serious tell and he couldn’t afford to spook the human.

“No, that’s okay. It’s fine.” Ryan smiled, though it seemed a tad forced to Bardulf. “Especially if your sister insists on it. I wouldn’t want to be the cause of any kind of sibling rift.”

If he only knew it wasn’t Faylen who is insisting on a kiss, Bardulf thought as he swallowed his wolf back. He’d perfected control over the years, with a lot of hard work. He’d had to learn to harness his beast, ever since he’d realized he was an Alpha, and therefore twice as dangerous as an ordinary werewolf. He would not act like a wild puppy. He also wasn’t going to dance around this situation like a teenager for much longer. If Ryan said he was willing to give up a kiss, then Bardulf was going to take the invitation. He stepped close enough to feel Ryan’s warmth. “If you’re certain, I’m not going to turn you down.”

Ryan licked his lips. “Yeah.” His voice cracked. “I’m sure. Go for it.” He lifted his chin. “We’ve got fifteen minutes before the rest of the guys come in for the meet and greet and general picture taking.”

Bardulf looked at him. Ryan was a hair taller than he was, and just as muscular, not that it mattered one bit. Weres were stronger than humans. He could rip Ryan’s throat out in the time it took for the musician to blink. But you wouldn’t do that to your mate, a voice in the back of his head said. Bardulf’s heart tripped at the thought. Fucking hell, he thought, mouth suddenly dry as a desert. Mate? Ryan was human.

“Well? What are you waiting for?” Ryan asked him.

Bardulf didn’t have the heart to tell him that instead of a kiss, he suddenly wanted a bite. He wanted to claim Ryan as his own. His wolf howled in his head and the tips of his fingers prickled as he took a deep breath and forced his body to obey his will. He would not fucking shift here.

“Okay, fine. If you’re getting cold feet, I’ll take care of it,” Ryan murmured, stepping close and grabbing Bardulf’s biceps. He wasn’t gentle about it, and that just made his wolf like the man even more. Bardulf steeled himself, and then Ryan’s lips were on his.

Soft. Sweet, Bardulf thought, and then his wolf growled. Mine.

Ryan gasped as Bardulf slid his fists into his hair and deepened the kiss. He licked inside, chasing Ryan’s taste. He had to get closer. He needed more. Ryan shuddered and kissed him back, fingers tightening to the point of pain on Bardulf’s arms. Bardulf didn’t care. His wolf liked it. He slid a thigh between Ryan’s legs and shoved. Ryan stumbled back and Bardulf followed until they hit the wall, and then he had to come up for air.

“Fucking hell,” Ryan whispered, lips wet and red as he stared at Bardulf.

Bardulf agreed. Mate, his wolf rumbled.

****

Ryan couldn’t breathe right. He also couldn’t move, not with Bardulf’s leg thrust between his and rubbing in the perfect spot, right up against his dick. He wasn’t sure he wanted to move. Instead of struggling, he grabbed Bardulf’s face and drew the man in again, kissing him harshly. If he was going to turn gay in a fraction of an instant, he was going to fucking enjoy it as much as possible. The stubble on Bardulf’s jaw scraped over his palms, and he shivered, liking that more than he ought to. Although, when have I ever done what I was supposed to do? he thought, licking into Bardulf’s mouth eagerly.

Bardulf didn’t resist. Instead, he shoved closer, pushing Ryan into the cinderblock wall hard enough so that he could feel every goddamn inch of his muscled body. The sensation of Bardulf’s heart thundering against his own was only vaguely reassuring.

“What the fuck is happening?” he managed to ask, in between kisses that resembled bites more than anything else at this point. Bardulf smelled amazing—better than any other lover he’d ever had. And he’d had a lot, before his self-imposed moratorium last year. He’d decided he didn’t want another random hookup because those encounters always left him feeling empty, but Bardulf didn’t make him feel like that. He smelled sort of familiar, like he already knew the man. The scent was something like a forest mixed with hot steel. Wild and fucking impossible. This wasn’t a kiss. This was fuck-at-first-sight. Something he swore he’d never do.

“Fuck,” Bardulf growled as if he were reading Ryan’s mind. He tightened his fingers in Ryan’s hair hard enough to hurt.

After only sort of catching his breath, Ryan barked a laugh. “Yeah, no. There isn’t enough time for fucking, hot stuff.” But he wanted to. Oh, God, he wanted to. And isn’t that just fucking ridiculous, when you always thought you were a straight boy? he asked himself incredulously. He felt as if some wild proto-human instinct had risen up inside his body and taken over. You don’t know the first thing about fucking a dude, anyway, so get a grip, Ryan.

Instead of replying, Bardulf kissed him again, then scraped his teeth down Ryan’s neck, pausing to bite gently on the tendon between his shoulder and jaw. He froze like that, breathing heavily. The warmth of his mouth on his skin nearly put Ryan over the edge.

Yes, I have another new series…

…that I started writing because I am insane. I have way too many ideas stuffed in my head and I intend on writing as many of them into books as I possibly can before I drop dead at age 103.

So there.

Rock Star Baby was accepted by Evernight! It will be out soon. The name of the series is Bad Oak Boys.

I just can’t resist the whole rock star, musician, band, fame trope. 😀

Evernight Coming Soon

Rock Star Baby – coming soon from Evernight Publishing!

Ryan Oakley, lead singer of Bad Oak and heartthrob extraordinaire, isn’t looking for a girlfriend. He’s definitely not looking for a boyfriend, but after the explosive encounter he has with a guy he meets backstage, he realizes he’s more flexisexual than he’d thought. Of course, suddenly being able to shift into a wolf is an unexpected side effect he didn’t expect and can barely control.

Bardulf Forst is Alpha-Heir to his pack, but he can’t resist his little sister when she begs him to meet Ryan Oakley. When he realizes the sexy singer is his mate, he can’t deny instinct. He claims the famous rock star even though he knows his father won’t approve: heirs are supposed to have children and two males can’t reproduce.

Little do they know that they’re about to experience an ancient shifter biological imperative: when two male Alphas mate, unexpected miracles sometimes happen.
