Lucy Soren never expected to live through an alien attack. Months later, her nightmares won’t let her forget the pain she suffered, or her strange attraction to the man who saved her from certain death.

Sentry Solomon Dusk never wanted to heal a mortal woman, but he can’t forget Lucy’s bravery or beauty. Even though he vowed to never again fall in love, Lucy attracts him like no other woman ever has before.

When the alien Spiders again slip past the Sentries’ defenses, Solomon’s only thought is to protect the woman he refuses to love. Lucy’s only hope is to run from the danger to her heart. Unfortunately, the fate of the planet rests on their ability to work together. Will their fear of commitment keep them from saving the planet… and each other?

Story Excerpt:

Solomon couldn’t help himself. He cupped her cheek, savoring the softness of her skin under his palm. “I am not taking you back to your parents’ house. I’m taking you home to mine.”

She stepped back. “Oh, no you’re not.”

He moved forward, pinning her against the starship. Her soft curves felt like heaven against his weary muscles. “Lucy, please come home with me.” He wanted her to say yes, so he leaned down and kissed her lightly.

She trembled. “Why? Why do you want me to come with you?”

He sighed and rested his forehead on hers. “Because I am tired of worrying about you.”

“That’s ridiculous. I’m fine.” She didn’t step away, though he sensed her frustration with him. He’d have to choose his words more carefully if he didn’t want her to bolt.

“I can take care of myself. I’m not your responsibility,” she said tartly. “It’s not my fault you’re stressed out.”

“I know, Lucinda. I did not say my worry is rational.” He kissed her again, coaxing her lips open with his mouth. She tasted like coffee and mint. He groaned when she slowly slid her arms around his shoulders.

“This is crazy,” she whispered.

“Yes. It is,” he agreed, flushed with arousal. I can’t fight this anymore, he thought, and then she curled a leg around his, grinding her hip into his cock. Her emotions were bright and alluring. He couldn’t keep his empathy under control. The energy stretched out, enveloping her as he caressed her with his mind as well as his body.

“Solomon, what is this? One minute you’re pushing me away, the next you’re kissing me.” She sounded so confused he had to answer her.

“Affinity,” he murmured, taking her mouth again. He pushed her harder against the ship as heat flared between them. Her arousal beat through his empathy, rousing his energy even more. Suddenly, his healing ability triggered and he moaned as pleasure rushed through him. He sucked in a deep breath, fighting for control, but she writhed beneath him, grabbing his shirt in her fists.

“God, what are you doing to me?” she asked brokenly. Solomon nibbled down her jaw, inhaling her sweet scent. “What about the Spiders? Is this safe?” She gripped his shirt tighter.

Solomon rolled his hips as he answered her, pressing his cock into her softness. “They are gone. Greyson and I took care of them. That’s why I had to leave so abruptly earlier,” he said, running his hands down her back to cup her ass.

She went still as his hands lifted her into him and his empathy crackled. She was aroused and yearning and frightened all at the same time.

“Wait, what?” She jerked her head to the side. “What do you mean they’re gone? They were gone months ago!”

He eased away slightly, using his healing energy to soothe the worst of her fear. “There was an infestation. The new sensors I installed picked it up.”

“Oh my God,” she whispered, hand going to her throat.

Solomon frowned and cupped her cheeks. “You are safe. We eradicated the infection.” He didn’t like the way she’d gone pale. Her sudden terror prickled through him like static as his empathy ramped up even higher. His instincts told him to grab her and take her home. “Will you come home with me?”

She stared up at him. “What about my parents?”

“The infestation is gone. They should be fine. And the sensors are still active,” he assured her. He knew there was no reason to take her to his tower, but he was tired of fighting himself. He wanted her in his territory. In his bed. He gritted his teeth as his healing energy surged again, responding to her emotions.

She licked her lips. “I’m scared.”

His heart nearly cracked in two. “I know,” he said, gently brushing a curl away from her temple. “But I can keep you safe. I promise.”

“How?”

He kissed her. He had to. “Do you trust me?” His mind reached out to hers.

She nodded. “Yes, of course.”

“I will not let you die, Lucinda.” She trembled as he kissed her again, licking inside her mouth. He needed to be closer.

“I feel strange,” she whispered. “Like I’m on the verge of a migraine, but instead of pain, it feels good.”

Solomon shivered. He knew exactly what she meant because he was feeling it with her. “I know. I feel it too,” he said, swallowing hard.

She kissed him then, and he moaned as she delicately explored his mouth. “Let me in,” he murmured.

“You healed me,” she said, breathing hard. “I felt you inside my body. Your energy—”

He nodded. “Yes.”

“Is that what this is?”

He didn’t know how to answer that. Instead, he kissed her again, passionately, barely able to think. Lucy cried out and suddenly, her inner barriers faded and his mind surged forward. She grabbed him as he groaned. “Fuck!”

“Sounds like a good idea to me,” she muttered, shaking so hard he could barely keep her upright. He lifted her against his body again, inhaling near her neck. She smelled sweet. Her mind sizzled through his and he abruptly realized there was no going back. When she reached down and undid his pants, he knew for certain that it was already too late.

“Jesus,” she said, gripping his cock in her fist. “You’re huge.”

“Lucy, there is no going back from this,” he managed to say even as he undid her shirt. Her skin intoxicated him. Her mind buzzed against his like electricity. Her generous breasts spilled into his hands.

“I’m tired of being frightened,” she replied, staring up at him. Her brown eyes gleamed in the late afternoon sunlight, almost as if sparks were coming out from her mind to the surface. “If this will help me not have nightmares anymore…” She trailed off and chewed on her bottom lip. “I trust you.”

So beautiful… he thought fuzzily.

He shuddered and pulled her blouse off, tossing it to the ground. His empathy and healing energy fluctuated from nearly nothing to full-throttle and then back down again as he palmed her perfect breasts. For the first time in his long life, he had no control, but he couldn’t bring himself to care. When Lucy shoved at his shirt, he backed up and tore it off. Her hands immediately went to his chest, smoothing up over the muscles. He threw his head back as she struggled to push his pants over his hips. When they dropped to the ground, he toed off his shoes, then went to his knees in front of her.

If you like sexy, suspenseful stories, and strong heroes…

Did you know that I’ve written some deliciously sexy romances under a different pen name? Yup. Marie E. Blossom specializes in suspenseful MF romance. (And yes, it’s a little absurd to talk about myself in the third person, but what are you gonna do? The life of a writer is filled with these ridiculous mental games. :D)

Mid Week Tease: Loving Lily – #MWTease

MidWeekTease2

It’s Mid Week Tease time again, hosted by the phenomenal Sandra Bunino!

I thought this week I’d open up my bag of tricks and introduce you to a novel written by my alter ego, Marie E. Blossom. Who says that falling in love only happens when you’re a teenager? My two protagonists in Loving Lily have been around the block a few times. In this scene, Lily and Matt have just met. Her car has broken down. Matt saves her. Be warned, Lily is feisty and when things don’t go her way, she tends to swear. A LOT!

 loving-lily   epeditorsesal1s

TEASER:

“Fuck.  Double fuckity fuck,” Lily muttered, kicking at her stupid, dumb, loser flat tire.  She didn’t even bother trying to keep the cursing down this time.  She was in the middle of freaking nowhere with her entire life packed into her stupid SUV.  And what happens? I get a flat.  Of course.

“If you’d bothered to plug your cell phone in, this wouldn’t be a big deal, now would it?” she berated herself out loud.  “But no.  You couldn’t remember to do that, could you? Of course not.  You’re lost, your cell battery is dead, and your car is going nowhere.  Fuck!” She yelled out the last part, kicking the tire again.

She looked up at the trees, judging it to be late afternoon by the angle of the sun.  She’d been looking forward to checking into the bed and breakfast she’d booked, and then heading somewhere for dinner.  Now she was stuck on the side of a mountain, in the woods, in rural Vermont, with no way to get help.

“Looks like I’m walking.  Probably for hours,” she said aloud.  “Because I’m too dumb to plan ahead.  Soon as I get settled, I’m buying an extra phone battery. “

She locked her car and started off down the road.  At least it was summertime.  And not raining.

“I shouldn’t have stopped in the mall this morning.  I didn’t really need a new bra. ” She kicked a rock along the side of the road.  It made a satisfying sound so she kicked it again.

“I could have stopped for lunch.  There was a sandwich shop right off the interstate. ” She’d been thinking about the new bra and the trauma of finally accepting that she’d been stuffing herself into lingerie two sizes too small. When she’d driven past the sandwich place, she decided she wasn’t that hungry.  “But you’re hungry now, aren’t you, Lily?” She stopped for a moment to look up at the sky.  The blue expanse just beyond the treetops mocked her. “Idiot,” she snorted.

The thing was, she really did need a new bra.  She didn’t have many because she hated shopping for them so much, so she tended to wash and rewash until the few she owned were falling apart.  She was at the point where all of the bras she owned were falling apart.

“Fuck.  This stupid bra really is comfortable,” she said aloud, kicking the rock again.

“Hello there! I saw a car with a flat back there.  Is it yours?” a male voice called out.

Lily jumped, heart knocking against her ribs.  She spun around, surprised to see a man standing over a mountain bike just behind her.  What the hell? Where did he come from? And also, oh shit, did he just hear me talking about my bra? Out loud?

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you,” he said, unbuckling his helmet.

Lily stared, still too freaked out to speak.  He was huge.  Like, really, really tall.  And built.  Her eyes wandered over his green t-shirt, down his cargo shorts to his feet.  He was wearing some sort of hard boots with metal clip things on the bottom.  Given all the crap that had happened in her life, she should probably be frightened about being caught alone in the middle of rural USA with a strange man, but she just couldn’t work up the energy for it right now.  Plus, he had kind eyes.

And he’s extremely good-looking, she thought to herself, a little bit star-struck.  He was movie-star hot, especially with the hint of silver at his temples.  The crows-feet at the corner of his eyes made him seem real. Approachable.  He looked like a man who’d been through a lot and come out the other side even better.  He smiled appealingly.  Lily stared some more.  His teeth were perfectly white.

“Are you okay?” he asked, making no move to come closer.  It was as if he knew how intimidating he could look if he tried.  He stood there casually, one hand cradling his helmet, the other held palm out near his hip.  It was a distinctly unthreatening gesture.

Lily took in his bright hazel eyes, his messy dark hair, the width of his shoulders, and swallowed, hard.  If he knew I was speechless because he’s insanely gorgeous, not because I’m afraid, he’d probably turn tail and run to get away from the crazy woman, she thought.  “Um, yeah.  That’s my car,” she finally managed to say aloud.  She grimaced.  “And my flat tire. “

He cocked his head.

He looks adorable when he does that, she thought absently, eyes wandering back over him again.

“Do you have someone you can call?” he asked.

She shook her head.  “No.  Even if my cell phone wasn’t dead, I’d just be calling the nearest tow company.  I’m not from around here. “

“I figured that,” he said, smiling.  “The nearest tow place would be my brother, Alex.  He owns the town’s only mechanic shop. “

Lily grinned, holding out her hand.  “That’s good to know.  I’m Lily Solton, by the way.  Do you, by any chance, have a working cell phone?”

He walked closer, wheeling the bicycle with him.  It was mud-spattered, but bright green paint shone through the dirt.  When his hand closed over hers, she gasped at how gently he held it.  His hand was warm and dry and strong—she could see the muscles in his forearm flexing, but he didn’t use it to hurt her like some men would.  Instead, he shook her hand and let go politely.

“I do,” he said, then blinked.  “Have a phone, that is. “

Lily laughed out loud.  “If I said ‘I do’ too, does that mean I get to buy you dinner? I mean, if we’re going to get married, the least I can do is ask you out on a date, right?”

To her astonishment, he blushed.

Whoa, she thought, inordinately charmed.  He’s hot and nice and he blushes, oh my.

“Um, yeah. “ He stumbled over his words.  “I mean, no.  Wait, that didn’t come out right. ” He stopped and took a breath and tried again while Lily grinned at him.  “I would enjoy having dinner with you, but marriage on the day we meet is a bit too hasty for me. “ His hazel eyes twinkled down at her.  “It’s not you, it’s me,” he added, chuckling.

Lily laughed, stepping back.  “I get that, sure. “

He reached into his pocket and extracted a phone.  “Want me to call my brother?”

“If he’s the guy with the tow truck, yes, please. “

He nodded and Lily watched him punch a button.

“Hey,” he said, phone to his ear, lips quirking up on one side.  “I’ve got a lady with a flat out on Rock Creek Road. “ He nodded.  “Yeah.  Sure, we can wait. ” He slid the phone back in his pocket, shaking his head.  “Not like you can go anywhere, not with that flat. “ He jerked his thumb back down the road.

“How long?” Lily asked him, trying not to stare at the way his shirt stretched over the luscious perfection of his pectoral muscles.

“He says fifteen minutes.  I’ll walk you back to your car. ” He hooked his helmet on his handlebar and turned the bicycle around.

“You don’t have to do that,” she protested.  “I don’t want to hold you up.  Looks like you were in the middle of a ride. “

He shrugged.  “I ride almost every day.  It’s no big deal. ” He began walking.  “You coming?”

Lily hitched her purse higher on her shoulder.  “Yeah.  I’m coming. “

Here are some other Mid Week Teasers for you!

Greyson can’t afford to care for a mortal woman, no matter how compelling. Hackers are attacking Stronghold, the Sentries’ net, and Spiders are swarming beyond the moon, but when Eva is attacked, he discovers he can’t just let her die…

Story Excerpt:

“Eva, don’t,” Greyson said gently. His fingers touched her temple.

She refused to take his comfort. “I’ll do it,” she said, turning her face away from his hand. Anger rushed through her. Damn John. And damn Greyson, for being a Sentry.

“I already told my brothers no.” He pulled her close.

Eva didn’t have the strength to fight him off again. Her lips hit his damp shirt and she let her head fall into his shoulder. He tasted like rain and dust.

“I would never use you as bait,” he murmured.

She bit her lip, hard. If she let herself think about it too much, she’d lose it. “You have to. It’s the only way.” At least he believed she was innocent. Small favors, she told herself grimly.

“I’ll find another way,” he murmured, kissing her hair.

He was being so gentle. The strangeness of it undermined her best intentions. Dammit. I can’t do this alone anymore. Eva blinked back tears, and hurriedly wiped them away. Screw it. I’ll do what I have to, but I want to live a little first. She grabbed onto him, twining her fingers in his shirt. “I don’t want to die, Greyson.”

“God,” he muttered harshly.

The next thing she knew, he’d lifted her up in his arms. “Greyson, stop,” she cried, hanging on for dear life.

“Shh,” he admonished her, heading for the stairs.

She shoved her face in his chest. “I don’t know how to do this.”

“I do,” he said, kicking open the door to his room with his foot. The bed was lit with red and gold light as the sun set over the valley.

Eva trembled as he lowered her down. “I thought you couldn’t get close to anyone. You said you had to remain aloof, as a Sentry.”

He growled as he took off his shirt, tossing the wet fabric to the floor. “I changed my mind.”

She stared at his chest. Muscles played over his torso as he popped the buttons on his jeans. She knew he was strong. He’d picked her up like she weighed nothing at all, but she hadn’t realized until right now just how much his clothing hid. He unlatched the metal clasps of his boots and kicked them off, padding barefoot to the bed. Her eyes went to a rip in his jeans as her whole body went hot. Whoa, she thought, overwhelmed. Is this really happening? She’d been dreaming about this moment for years and had all but given up on being with Greyson intimately.

“Don’t be afraid,” he said, tugging at the arms she’d self-consciously wrapped around her chest.

“I’m sorry,” she said, voice cracking. “I’m not perfect and thin and strong—”

“Shh.” He cut her off. “You don’t see yourself the way I do.”

She frowned at him, but he picked up her hands and put them on his shoulders. His skin is so hot. She kneaded the warm muscles beneath her palms, trying to convince herself she wasn’t dreaming.

When he closed his eyes and shuddered, she bit her lip. “I’m sorry,” she said again, unable to help herself, but then he moved in and kissed her. The shock of his lips moving against hers destroyed her ability to think. All she could do was hang on and trust him.

****

Greyson released the control he held over his empathic power and let himself sink into her emotions. He didn’t understand why she thought she was so unattractive—Eva was one of the most beautiful women he’d ever known, not just in body, but in strength of character. She’d been through so much and come out the other side a survivor. She eroded his self-control until he couldn’t fight himself any more. He hadn’t let a woman get close to him in two hundred years, but this slip of a girl destroyed all his good intentions. He nibbled on her delectable lower lip. “You’re beautiful,” he murmured, hands on her hips. No way was he going to stop now. He’d committed to this, Bruno and his suspicions be damned.

She gasped, opening to him perfectly. He kissed her again, savoring her taste. Her hands clutched at his arms and he kissed down her jaw, reveling in the softness of her skin. “You’re strong,” he said, unbuttoning her blouse and pushing it over her shoulders. His breath caught when he saw his ring nestled between her breasts.

“I’m not,” she argued, but he kissed her a third time, cutting off her protests.

“Gorgeous,” he whispered when he let her up for air. He peeled the fabric from her body. Her generous breasts strained against the black satin of her bra and he wasted no time in nuzzling against them. She slid her hands into his hair as he tugged at the cup, popping a nipple out over the top. He sucked it in, playing at it with his tongue until it pebbled.

“Oh God, Greyson,” she gasped, fisting his hair.

He grinned against her skin and undid the clasps, sliding the bra away. He licked at her other nipple, plying the first one with his thumb. His senses were wide open and he could feel just how much she liked this. When he bit down, she arched her back. The tiny bit of pain shot her arousal higher. Greyson groaned as the echo of it funneled through him. His dick hurt where it was trapped in his jeans. He bit down again, then undid her pants. He paused and looked up her body. Her fair skin flushed under his gaze.

“There’s no going back from this,” he said, wanting her to be certain. He reached up and snagged a lock of her gorgeous hair between his fingers. “Be sure.”

Greyson Dark doesn’t like strangers in his territory.

Eva Waverley doesn’t like being told to keep out.

After her father’s suicide, hiking is the only thing that makes the bullying in Eva’s new school bearable. When Greyson rescues her from a tumble, she falls for him despite his autocratic demeanor. She’s leaving for college soon—what does it matter if she crushes on a man everyone else fears?

Greyson suspects Eva is his true mate, but duty demands he remain aloof. She doesn’t know he’s a long-lived Sentry, sworn to protect Earth from the Spiders, an ancient alien menace. When she leaves for college, he’s relieved, but four years later she comes back, all grown up and more gorgeous than ever.

“Be sure.”
