A release, a review, a spotlight—a rad roundup

Love Storm is available on Amazon Kindle! Yay! *runs around in circle dancing*

Lest you think that is all, Love Storm also received a rad review from The Romance Reviews. 4 Stars!

Most importantly though, the romance is swoon-worthy. One huge thing I adore about Erin M. Leaf’s characters in this and the previous books is the maturity of the characters. Zoe, Charlie and Sean had full lives before bonding and they bring this life strength with them when they bond. None of them fight their feelings or the intensity, even Sean who didn’t think he was bisexual before the bonding. And the best part of this is that the trio don’t just come together because of sex (but oh is that there!) but because of how they connect emotionally. I love how the trio support each other and share problems and solutions. These characters don’t do stupid things and wonder why it doesn’t work out–and I loved that maturity.

I have been looking forward to LOVE STORM since I finished book two and I’m pleased to say the book lived up to my high expectations. Any ménage or paranormal romance reader will love this book and the entire series as I do. –J9, The Romance Reviews

Destiny Calls by Samantha Wayland

When I read a novel, I most enjoy those with an exciting plot (explosions are a plus), character development that knocks my socks off, and/or superpowers (I read everything from sci-fi/fantasy to murder mysteries). When it comes to erotic romance, I adore sexual tension. Unresolved sexual tension is the ultimate romance candy: characters who are crazy for each other but aren’t together yet for some reason makes my imagination tingle.

Destiny Calls by Samantha Wayland has so much of this kind of tension that I broke into a sweat halfway through the first chapter. I couldn’t put the book down. I had to find out what happened. I read the entire thing in an emotional frenzy–it took about three-four hours. I read it so quickly not because the novel is short (the print version is 314 pages), but because I refused to budge until I’d consumed it whole.

The novel opens at a club where long-time best friends and police officers Patrick Brown and Brandon Barrett have gone to see the band on stage that night. Amusingly, that particular evening is when the bar caters to the local gay crowd. Since nothing in this kind of book ever goes smoothly, of course Brandon is harrassed by an ugly biker dude who won’t take “not interested” for an answer. Patrick, the straight guy in this particular duo, decides that kissing his bisexual best friend would solve the problem. After all, if he and Brandon are “together,” the ugly biker dude would leave them alone, right? Little did he know that one kiss would rock his entire universe.

Much soul-searching and self-reevaluation occurs in the next few chapters. Patrick had no idea he was attracted to Brandon. Brandon agonizes over the situation because he’d been nursing a crush on Patrick for years. Then, just when I thought Ms. Wayland had milked the sexual tension to completion, in walks Destiny. With the addition of a third into the already volatile mix, the tension ramps up to steamy levels. Destiny is just what the two men need to help them come to terms with their growing attraction. It doesn’t hurt that she is as much a friend to each man as they are to each other. It also doesn’t hurt that the three of them truly fall in love in a realistic fashion. As a heroine, Destiny definitely holds her own with both men. She turns what could have been a major mistake for the men into a passionate affair involving all three main characters equally.

Happily, the rest of the novel details the trio’s growing emotional commitment to each other without ever lapsing into unemotional sexual acrobatics. The sex is inventive, hot, and the key to understanding their growing love for each other. Destiny Calls is a satisfying romance, complete with a delicious happy ending. The conflict is believable, the dialogue is snappy, and the characters likeable. This is the book that put Samantha Wayland’s name on my must-buy-everything-she-writes list.

Story Excerpt:

As if she could tell he was staring, she looked up, her gamine face confused. When she caught sight of him, she frowned. Clearly she knew who he was. Sean strode through the crowd, enjoying the sun-baked warmth of the dusty ground on his toes. Bare feet again? He didn’t let it bother him this time, not even grimacing at the sensation. This wasn’t the first time he’d dreamed of this faire. It wasn’t even the second time. When the dreams first started, he was quite disconcerted by the lack of shoes. After the third or fourth time, he had resigned himself to the fact that he was always barefoot. At least this time he was able to move closer to the woman without waking up. He needed to get closer still.

It was only when he found himself edging into the shade of her open tent that he allowed himself a small glimmer of triumph. He’d never yet made it this far. Always before, in every other one of these dreams, she’d fled before he could get to her. He stepped in closer. She was thin. Strong. Older than him, maybe forty years old but still beautiful. He liked the way she carried herself, as though the years had burned away any sense of foolishness. This was not a woman who would be easy to know. She would be a challenge. He stepped closer. For the first time in one of these dreams, she held her ground, gripping the edges of the rough wood table fiercely enough to make the tips of her fingers go white.

“Who are you?”

Sean watched her bite her lip as he pondered how to answer the question. He was sorely tempted to say “I am your destiny,” but he had a feeling that she wouldn’t appreciate the joke. “My name is Sean. Who are you?”

“Why are you stalking me?” The woman ignored his question, frowning at him, and Sean felt a pang of lust surge through him. The stern expression on her face didn’t detract at all from her luminous beauty. From the pale green of her eyes to the sharp blue streaks she’d had painted into her short, dark hair to her wiry build, Sean knew this woman was more than a match for him. His body approved, even if his mind hadn’t yet caught up to that realization. He felt his jeans tighten, and her eyes dropped to his groin then fled like startled birds back up to his face. Sean smiled.

“Why ever would you think I’m stalking you? This is just a dream,” he said quietly, hoping to dispel her fear.

She pressed her lips together, and Sean sensed her apprehension boil over. He didn’t need to touch her to know that her body would be taut with worry. He stepped closer, then stopped, looking beyond her thin shoulders. There was another person here, a man, dark as shadow in the depths of her tent. “Who is that?”

She frowned harder, searching his face, for what, he did not know. When she turned abruptly, Sean moved in right next to her. The noise of the crowd faded the closer he got. She gasped, and the shape behind her materialized into a young man with dusky skin and long, straight dark hair. Sean tried to make out his features but couldn’t. Strangely, he felt a kinship with the stranger, a deep pull on his senses that went beyond the surface. He wanted to touch this man, see if he felt real. The ground rumbled again but none of them paid any attention. Outside the tent the wind picked up, and Sean tasted the scent of water in the air.

“Where am I?” the man asked, his voice light and steady. He looked around. “This is a desert. That makes no sense.” He moved closer, and suddenly Sean could see the man’s face. He was young, maybe in his early twenties. He had dark eyes and possibly a bit of Native American blood in him, a sharp contrast to Sean’s pale skin and deep blue eyes. The woman clenched her hands together then rubbed at her arms as though she had an itch she couldn’t get to. Sean frowned. He’d seen that action before.

“I have no idea what the hell is going on,” the woman gritted out. The young man looked at her, his face so open and compassionate that Sean felt another pang of lust course through him, this time for the man. What the hell?

“My name is Charlie. Charlie Aponivi. I know I’m dreaming. I went out to the forest to see if I could complete a dream journey, like my ancestors, but I didn’t expect to end up in the desert. That’s just weird.” The man ran his hands through his hair. Sean watched the woman watch Charlie do this and recognized her sudden attraction in the way her body swayed towards the young man. Sean was fairly perplexed himself. He wanted to take his hands and run them through that dark waterfall of hair, too. He’d never before felt an attraction to a member of the same sex, but the throbbing in his jeans certainly convinced him of it now.

“I’m Sean,” he said, reaching out a hand unthinkingly. The other man took it reflexively. The moment they touched, Sean blinked at the torrent of emotion he could feel coming from Charlie. The ground rumbled, then lurched suddenly. The woman gasped and stumbled against them. Suddenly, she was touching both of them, trying to keep from falling. The bare skin of her palms scorched theirs.

“Zoe,” Sean breathed, trying to keep his feet while a torrent of emotion, much of it conflicting, poured into him from her. “Your name is Zoe Brooke.”

Storms! Earthquakes! Various bad things! How about a free copy of Love Storm?

Anyone who knows me well knows how much I adore hate stormy weather/disasters. I’m alternately frightened and exhilarated by them. Thunderstorms, hail, blizzards: generally you’ll find me frantically updating the weather app on my phone and monitoring three different radars on my desktop computer when bad weather looms. My all-time favorite weather movie EVER is Twister (sadly, I can still quote lines: “Debris!” *characters watch sticks fly past the car window-then an airborne bovine* “Cow!”).

When I was a little girl, my dad liked to take me outside during electrical storms. We’d sit on the porch and watch  lightning flash in the sky. This made my mom CRAZY with worry (sorry mom!). My current house has been struck by lightning twice. Here is the stump of a tree we had to take down from a strike:

I’ve been in floods (link: I worked in Manhattan during that particular flood and saw cars floating past my office window). Blizzards. Several hurricanes. Ice-storms. I was even in an earthquake last year and terribly disappointed when I felt nothing (I was in the middle of the mall in DC! Close to the epicenter! I didn’t feel even a rumble! ARGH-so frustrating). Someday I swear I’m going to go tornado chasing, maybe when my kids are grown. In the meantime, I console myself with fiction: The Day After Tomorrow is my second favorite weather movie (I’m a bit of a disaster-movie buff). One of my favorite books is (a gift from my brother): The Greatest Disaster Stories Ever Told. Oh, and don’t forget Volcano (the coast is toast-bwaahahaha!) and Dante’s Peak (I have to admit I have NO DESIRE WHATSOEVER to experience a volcano up close and personal. I’m a little obsessed, but I’m not INSANE).

Oh, and let’s not forget Love Storm. The book I wrote about weather and the natural world going crazy. I had a seriously awesome time writing this novel. I completely geeked out with my characters. The heroine is named Zoe Brooke. Um, yeah. Water reference anyone? :-D Care to figure out what the names of the heroes mean?

A Siren Erotic Romance

Love Storm coming soon!

Coming May 8 from Siren Publishing! You’ll be able to pre-order in about a week. Meanwhile, would you like to read an excerpt? If so, CLICK HERE.

Also coming in May is Kiss Is A Four-Letter Word. It will be released May 18 and you’ll be able to buy it from Evernight Publishing, Amazon, ARe, BookStrand. I originally thought it would be released in June, but to my delight, the date was moved up. Would you like to read an excerpt? If so, CLICK HERE.

I’m also trying to figure out what to write next. I have tons of ideas, but which one to choose? If you’d like to help me out, I’ve put up a poll. To vote on what novel I write next, CLICK HERE.

Just finished Love Storm

Well, sort of. I wrote it, revised it, and just now I sent it in to the publisher. If I’m lucky, I’ll hear back from them in a few weeks with an acceptance. Given the way their schedule looks right now, I’m guessing it might be released in April or May 2012. I’ll have to do edits in the next few months before it comes out. Cross your fingers for me!

In other news, I’m thinking of writing a stand-along menage novelette. Something around 30K. If I can come up with some ideas for characters and plot, I’ll let you know how it’s going.

Also, I just got word that Tango Trio will soon be available in paperback! W00t! Here is the link at Amazon. There is no buy button yet, but I’m sure it will pop up there soon. I can’t wait to get my hands on a paper copy. And neither can my mother. LOL.
