Happily Ever After Reviews

Rating: 4 tea cups!

Mix a virginal heroine with a bi-sexual family friend and a bi-sexual FBI Special Agent, throw in some mayhem with possible gang repercussions, and you have an explosive mix. This story, as they say on the streets, ‘rocks.’

Sabrina Birch is the damsel in distress, a never dated, never been kissed virgin, ready to start graduate school. She’s being left at home by her lawyer father, someone who regularly provides pro bono services for those in need. He leaves his daughter in the care of family friend, Jimmy, five years her senior and recently back from overseas as a journalist.

In the first part of the story, Sabrina and Jimmy start to ignite their passions, but are interrupted by gunshots. Enter the FBI. Gabriel, an old friend of Jimmy’s, who once shared a passionate kiss, becomes the third spoke.

Erin Leaf’s story is really about Sabrina’s sexual blossoming and her acceptance of an alternative lifestyle. She starts as a repressed woman-girl and arcs to a woman comfortable in her own skin, sharing lovers with her two bi-sexual men. In the first half, the sexual tensions mounts, not unlike sex itself, and is not fully consummated until later.

The story is really the sexual tension and encounters between three people who love each other and there are scenes of both homosexual and heterosexual couplings, which, in this reader’s estimation, are well written and show the attraction between the three. The story of Sabrina’s peril becomes a thread woven through the narrative of these people as they express their affections.

Their real peril does not come from gang activity, but something, which I will not describe, so you may enjoy this book. I found Sabrina’s character unusual, in that she, at twenty-one, has never been kissed or dated, much less still a virgin. I believe Erin Leaf writes her younger than her twenty-one years; her characteristics seem immature for the age she is supposed to be. However, I do realize I could be wrong here. Certainly there are virgins and socially naive twenty-somethings.

This is an entertaining book, easily read and with enough sex, well written scenes of Male/Female, Male/Male and a ménage à trois to warrant my heat rating of four.

“An easy to read, titillating story of love, expressed many ways, makes this erotic romance (with a happily for now ending) burn the pages. The story of their peril, punctuated by physical expressions of love make you turn the pages, but not always without re-reading some of the eroticism.”

5 stars!

Sabrina is a 21-year-old nerdy graduate student who has never been kissed. How she longed for more experience, but her first kiss was disgusting.

Jimmy, the older boy-next-door, suggests that he teach her. He and his friend, Gabriel, teach her to kiss and so much more. There is m/m, m/f/m, and m/f.

The plot is strong, also. Someone is trying to kill or kidnap Sabrina in order to seek revenge on her father, a lawyer. Gabriel happens to be a Special Agent of the FBI who is in charge of guarding her.

There is a lot of heat to this book. It is not for the faint of heart. I recommend it!

Story Excerpt:

Sparrow rubbed her temples tiredly. She thought coming here would make her feel better, not worse. She’d be able to visit, gawk a little like every other tourist, and then, voila! She’d be over her ridiculous crush on Morgan Wilde.

Because there is no way, no freaking way, I’m bonding with the president of the United States. That’s just impossible, right? she told herself, stomach churning. Who would believe her, even if it were true? Certainly not the man in her dreams. Morgan Wilde didn’t even know she existed.

She thought back to last night. In the dream, Morgan’s face had been so familiar to her, she wasn’t even surprised anymore to find him haunting her so often. They were always in a car, driving somewhere in the dark. In every dream, he’d kiss her, and she’d feel as though her entire body was on fire. Months of these stupid dreams had made her dread going to sleep, not sure if he would appear again. Not sure if she wanted him to appear. And then, last night, another man comes into the dream like so much smoke—thick and disturbing and impossible to ignore. What does that mean? She had no idea who he was. That she was here, in the White House, in pursuit of a dream was insanity enough without adding a second man into the equation.

“Sparrow!” Mary hissed suddenly.

Sparrow jerked her head up. Mary’s face had gone white. She looked around, but didn’t see anything wrong. The other tourists were milling around, waiting to be admitted into the main part of the building.

“Your wrists,” Mary said, crowding close. “Look.” She grabbed Sparrow’s right arm and turned her hand over.

Sparrow’s heart gave a sick, hard thump. The faintest outline of a tattoo was delicately etched on her skin. She couldn’t quite make it out yet, but there were definitely three circles. They looked like bruises. She snatched her hand away from Mary. “It’s nothing.” It had to be nothing. Otherwise, all those nights…no, she wasn’t crazy. She wasn’t bonding.

Mary narrowed her eyes. “Has this happened before?”

Sparrow shook her head. “I probably just banged it against the sink or something.”

Without warning, Mary seized her other wrist and held it up.

Sparrow froze. Three circles. Faintly outlined on her skin, same as her other wrist. She sucked in a harsh breath and clenched her fist. Impossible. “What’s happening to me?”

Mary grabbed her arm and hustled her to the corner, near the windows. There were still people all around, but at least they had a little more privacy here.

“You need to find your mate.” Mary grasped Sparrow’s hands and lightly touched a thumb to one of the circles. “Or mates. You need to, or you’re going to get very sick, from what I’ve read.”

Sparrow shook her head. “Mates? That’s insane.” She couldn’t think about this here. She couldn’t think about it at all without wanting to run away.

Mary squeezed her fingers tighter, making Sparrow wince. “Maybe. But you told me you dreamed about two men last night. Two.”

Sparrow pulled away and folded her arms around her waist so that her wrists were hidden. She really didn’t feel well. “What do you think I’m doing here, Mary?”

Her friend stared at her. “Holy fucking shit.”

Sparrow snorted. “Yeah. Exactly.” She thunked her head on the glass. It only made her headache worse. At this point, she felt like she was seeing everything through a filter of white noise. All the low voices around her were just static. God. She rubbed her forehead, trying to will the ache away. She hoped she wasn’t about to faint. Or throw up. That would be mortifying.

“What are we going to do?” Mary asked. She stepped away and started to pace. “It’s not like you can just waltz right in—”

“Excuse me,” a young man interrupted Mary’s low-voiced murmur. “Could you both please come with me?”

Sparrow straightened up. The man wore the standard Secret Service uniform that all the guides in the White House sported. She wasn’t sure what he wanted, but no one else was paying any attention to them.

“Is there a problem?” she asked, swallowing against the rising nausea. If she didn’t get a chance to sit down soon, she was pretty sure she was going to be very, very sick right on the very shiny floor.

“There’s no problem, ma’am. I’ve just been asked to escort you to a private area,” he said. “If you would come with me?” He stepped back and held out his arm.

Sparrow glanced at Mary, who shrugged, then lifted an eyebrow as if to say: isn’t this what you wanted?

“Okay,” Sparrow said. “Lead the way.”

The young man smiled politely and led them down the hall to a door hidden behind a tall plant. None of the other tourists paid them any attention. Sparrow frowned. How had she not noticed that door before? It wasn’t exactly hidden, but it wasn’t obvious, either.

“Where are we going?” she asked, following him.

“This way,” the man said, opening the door into a private garden courtyard that Sparrow had no idea even existed.

This isn’t on any of the public floor plans. She stumbled, still fighting her monstrous headache, but caught herself before she fell. The smell of flowers wafted across her face.

“Sparrow? Are you okay?” Mary asked, putting a hand on her arm.

Sparrow tensed. Her friend’s hand actually hurt. She shrugged it off, trying not to show how completely fucking freaked out she was.

What’s wrong with me? Is this what bonding feels like? If so, it sucks. She’d suspected she was bonding for a long time now, at least on some level, but she hadn’t expected to feel this wretched. And she still refused to believe that Morgan Wilde, president, was her bond mate. Or one of them, she thought very privately to herself.

Adult Excerpt:

Morgan ripped open his shirt, buttons flying. Sparrow reached out, then forced her hand back down. If she touched him now it would be all over, and she wanted Justin, too. She didn’t want to make love without him again. Now that they’d figured out why their bonding was so screwed up, she didn’t want to take any chances.

“Hurry,” she said, instead of touching him.

Morgan fumbled with his pants. His erection sprang out and Sparrow trembled. His cock was thick and dusky and perfect. She hadn’t had time before to really look at him before. They’d screwed on the table, still mostly clothed, because the bonding heat demanded it from them. She wanted more. His well-muscled chest looked like something out of a magazine. His hair was mussed, but she didn’t care.

He shoved his pants down. When he straightened up, she stepped back. She could hear the water in the shower shut off. Morgan’s blue eyes gleamed and then Justin stepped out of the bathroom, naked and wet.

Morgan swallowed hard. Sparrow looked at their bond-mate, admiring the toned perfection of his body. Her eyes landed on his erection. He was just as aroused as Morgan. His cock arched up against his abdomen, wet at the tip. When he reached down and palmed himself, she groaned.

“Fuck,” Morgan whispered. “I guess labels like straight or bi don’t really matter once you’re bonding.”

Justin grinned. “I was always bi, I just kept it to myself.”

Morgan sighed. “Same here. It doesn’t matter anymore. If I don’t touch you in the next ten seconds, I think I’m going to lose my damn mind.”

Sparrow agreed. “Yeah, what he said.”

“I’m not going to last,” Justin said in a strained tone of voice.

“Get on the bed,” Morgan said.

Sparrow didn’t know if he was talking to her or Justin, but she obeyed anyway. She backed toward the bed until her knees bumped the mattress. Justin came closer, hand still on his erection.

“Suck him,” Morgan commanded.

Sparrow’s entire body went white-hot. There was something so ridiculously sexy listening to Morgan giving orders. The president just told me to suck a man’s cock, she thought, burning up. She glanced up at him to find him also holding his erection. The shaft pushed out from between his fingers and she realized he was squeezing to hold off his climax. God, he’s hot. She sunk fingers into her pussy, unable to stop herself. She touched her clit, arching her back as sparks of pleasure shot through her.

“Fuck,” Justin said, watching her.

“Come closer,” Morgan said to Justin.

Their bond-mate nodded and moved between her legs. She licked her lips and leaned in. Justin aimed his prick at her mouth and she opened up.

We’ve never even kissed, she thought vaguely. It didn’t matter. He fed his erection into her mouth and she moaned as the warmth of him penetrated. He tasted good, sweet and musky, and he smelled like vanilla.

“God,” Morgan murmured.

Justin gasped as she used her tongue on him, then he eased out. Morgan took his place, carefully laying the tip of his cock on her lips. She licked him and he shuddered.

“So fucking hot,” Justin said, moving close again. His cock bumped Morgan’s and both men groaned. Justin waited until Morgan slid out of her mouth, and then he slid in. She sucked him, enjoying his pleasure. The bond was flaring inside the three of them, so that each one felt the others’ pleasure. When Sparrow licked her men, she felt it in her cunt, hot and decadent.

I’m going to explode. She reached up to hold both men in her hands. She began alternating between the two cocks, holding them close so that all she had to do was move her head a little. She sucked and licked until Justin started trembling so hard she was afraid she would catch him on her teeth if he had to stay upright much longer.

“Fuck me,” Sparrow said, urging him onto the bed.

The men looked at her, then at each other. The next thing she knew, Morgan was rummaging in the nightstand and Justin was pushing her up the bed. He rolled onto his back and hauled her on top.

“We’ll take it slow,” he said, kissing her.

She laughed into his mouth as his words penetrated her lust-hazed mind. “I don’t think slow is really an option.” Behind them, she heard the rip of plastic. A condom? But I told him about my implant, she thought, remembering their earlier bout of sex on the table, but then Justin ran his hands down her back and she forgot her confusion.

“Too bad,” he murmured against her lips, hands still stroking her spine. “I like it slow.”

“I’m in the mood for fast,” she said, smiling. She sank her hands into his messy hair, leaning her weight on her elbows.

He kissed her—probably to shut me up—and then she gasped as Morgan slid in behind them. His cock slotted up between her ass cheeks, hot and wet.

“God,” she said, gasping and arching away from Justin’s mouth. Justin grabbed her head and forced her back down, kissing along her jaw while Morgan rubbed his dick against her asshole.

OhThat’s what they meant about taking it slow. And why he needed a condom. She felt stupid and blurry, just now understanding that they meant to fuck her at the same time.

1. If your characters could pick a food to play with in the bedroom, what would they use?

Whip cream and chocolate sauce.

2. How old were you the first time you read a romance novel? Erotica?

Cheeky. LOL. I was old enough and that is all you’re getting 🙂

3. What is your favorite romance genre to read? Why? (Paranormal, sci-fi, contemporary, MM, menage, etc.)

I love so many. I read all of them as I don’t think leaving any genre out is fair. I’m always willing to read.

4. What’s hotter for the hero: long-hair, short, or bald? Why?

You’re sure giving me hard questions. I think it depends on the hero as to what is hotter. I read a book not long ago where the hero was bald and I thought it was hot.

So, it all comes down to the story and the characters as to what is hot and not.

5. When is your favorite time of day to write? Where is your favorite place to write? (Morning, evening, bed, playground, etc.)

I’ve actually got my small area set up with plenty of inspiration. I write in the mornings and through lunch time where I most often forget to eat.

When I’m editing, I love doing it away from my office and anywhere I can.

6. Bonus question! Do your characters use birth control (i.e. condoms) and if so, how do you make the mechanics of it sexy?

I use condoms sometimes and I try to spice it up by getting the hero to order the woman to put it on. Sometimes I forget because sex in the heat of the moment can be spoiled by remembering to put on protection.

Again, this one all comes down to the story and characters. Sometimes a condom fits the story whereas other stories don’t.

1. If your characters could pick a food to play with in the bedroom, what would they use?

I just finished writing a food play scene, and my characters got carried away with ice cream and whisky soaked, maraschino cherries. They both ended up sweet, sticky, and very satisfied. (and the kitchen floor was a wreck too!)

2. How old were you the first time you read a romance novel? Erotica?

I think I swiped my mom’s first romance novel before I was ten, but I didn’t discover erotica until my best friend heard me complaining that the books I was reading always faded to black at the “good parts.” She laughed and introduced me to erotic romances.

3. What is your favorite romance genre to read? Why? (Paranormal, sci-fi, contemporary, MM, menage, etc.)

I think it would have to be paranormal, but I love them all, it just depends on my mood and what new releases are out.

4. What’s hotter for the hero: long-hair, short, or bald? Why?

I spent my formative years around police officers and firemen, and so I have a thing for men with very short hair. (And guys in uniform too)

5. When is your favorite time of day to write? Where is your favorite place to write? (Morning, evening, bed, playground, etc.)

I seem to find my writing zone in the afternoon, that’s when I get the majority of my work done. I’ve never been a morning person, so it makes sense that I can’t really get creative until I’ve had at least two cups of coffee and a shower!  My office is my preferred writing space. It’s the one spot in the house that’s allowed to be messy and it’s filled with all my favorite things.

6. Bonus question! Do your characters use birth control (i.e. condoms) and if so, how do you make the mechanics of it sexy?

I tend to vary it from book to book, but in general my characters “try” to remember, they just don’t always succeed in the heat of the moment.

7. Tell us about your latest release or what you’re working on now.

I have a new paranormal erotic romance series coming up, and the first book, Saved by Sin, was released December 18th, 2012. The series is going to revolve around a group of retired military men and women who all work for a security firm. When the supernatural threatens one of their clients, they’re going to start learning more than they ever imagined about the things that go bump in the night.

Saved by Sin is Michelle & Sinjin’s story:   Security consultant Sinjin Heath is on leave while he recovers from a failed mission. When Michelle Jamieson arrives to take refuge in the cabin next door, he finds himself back in the protection business whether he’s ready or not. Michelle’s dead ex-boyfriend is haunting her, and the ghost wants to claim her, body and soul.

Wicked Wednesday with R. Brennan

BrennanFeltTips  BrennanVanilla Free  BrennanBloodandFire

1. If your characters could pick a food to play with in the bedroom, what would they use?

Ohh, that would completely depend on which characters in which story — but for my story in Evernight’s Vanilla-Free Christmas — it would be strawberries and chocolate syrup.

2. How old were you the first time you read a romance novel? Erotica?

I discovered a joy in reading about the time I started high school — with an historical romance novel. I devoured the genre almost exclusively for years. My love of erotica didn’t come till even later–about the time I discovered “”adult” online role play. I wanted to write a romance novel and I was having trouble writing the sex scenes, so I dropped into a Gorean chat room thinking it would have role played sexual interludes I could read. I got a quick education in both BDSM and erotica.

3. What is your favorite romance genre to read? Why? (Paranormal, sci-fi, contemporary, MM, menage, etc.)

I think my favorite to read is still the historicals — I was weaned on them, you know? Though I do have to say a steamy paranormal romance come a close second.

4. What’s hotter for the hero: long-hair, short, or bald? Why?

I prefer men shaved bald. I think it started with Stone Cold Steve Austin to be completely honest. I had such a crush on him. Mmm mmm. I also have a weakness for men with facial hair. I’ve never dated a man without it in my life. Go figure.

5. When is your favorite time of day to write? Where is your favorite place to write? (Morning, evening, bed, playground, etc.)

I work full time and am not really a morning person, so I HAVE to write in the evenings during the week. On the weekends, I tend to start in the afternoon, take a short break after a few hours and then hit things again for a bit in the evening. I don’t have a private place to write, really, so I sit on the bed in my room and settle the laptop on my thighs. It’s comfy, though I’m sorta making a bum hole in the mattress.

6. Bonus question! Do your characters use birth control (i.e. condoms) and if so, how do you make the mechanics of it sexy?

I’ve not written birth control into my stories. When I wrote my first one, I did have more than a few comments about that, but I think of it as something implied in the story. It’s like a woman’s cycle — you never hear about that in a story either, but it still happens to every woman.

7. Tell us about your latest release or what you’re working on now.

I’ve had the fortune of three releases in December 2012. The first being my short in Evernight’s Vanilla-Free Christmas Anthology. The second is my erotic short, Routine Maintenance, which is included in Felt Tips, a charity anthology of office supply themed erotica. All proceeds go toward buying school supplies for kids and work clothes for adults trying to find work. This one was the brain child of the esteemed erotic romance author, Tiffany Reisz. (Good stuff!)

The last of my releases (for now) is Blood and Fire, an erotic horror short being released by MuseItUp Publishing on the 28th. All of the stories have BDSM and D/s elements to them. Write what you know, right?

Wicked Wednesday with Lila Shaw

1. If your characters could pick a food to play with in the bedroom, what would they use?

My characters are rather fond of eclairs…squeeze the cream filling out into exotic locales for licking, then fill the empty eclair with something else (use your imagination). Lick off chocolate first then slowly nibble the outer pastry bits away until the new inner filling is discovered.

2. How old were you the first time you read a romance novel? Erotica?

I think I was in my mid-teens when I discovered the gothic romances of Victoria Holt, Phyllis Whitney and Mary Stewart. After that I moved on to Harlequin, all sweet romances, because they were cheap and easily found in vast quantities in my library. The “hard core” stuff (Rosemary Rogers et. al. who is really not so hard core compared to what I read now) was problematic, not because of the content but because the covers were so in your face bodice rippers and embarrassing. I’m a rather private person, so I really didn’t start to read erotica until I got my Kindle and discovered the wealth of ebooks out there.

3. What is your favorite romance genre to read? Why? (Paranormal, sci-fi, contemporary, MM, menage, etc.)

I love contemporary and historical the best, but I’ll read paranormal too, sci-fi if it’s steampunk more so than studly aliens. Those kind of weird me out. I have not yet developed a taste for menage or M/M.

4. What’s hotter for the hero: long-hair, short, or bald? Why?

I’d go with short hair, then bald, then long. Long hair seems too Zoolander or Wayne and Garth to me–take your pick of either extreme. Bald is in your face aggressive, which can be hot, but I like an alpha in beta’s clothing, which means he’s bald on the inside, but conservatively shorn on the outside. Rawrrr!!

5. When is your favorite time of day to write? Where is your favorite place to write? (Morning, evening, bed, playground, etc.)

I like to write in the morning before the rest of my family wakes up. I’m naturally an early bird. That’s when I also exercise too. I start to conk out around 9 PM. I have an office I use to do 99% of my writing, though I occasionally write on my lunch break at work or on my netbook while watching TV with the Silverback (husband).

6. Bonus question! Do your characters use birth control (i.e. condoms) and if so, how do you make the mechanics of it sexy?

Unless they are paranormal (which all my succubus ladies are), they use condoms in their first sexual encounters. I don’t bother trying to make it sexy. I go more for making it quick and unobtrusive OR I build it into the story as a sign of intimacy. I had one couple discuss getting tested after the sex scene as a way to show how much commitment they’d developed to each other. Sounds dry when dissected but it worked in the story pretty well as I’ve had readers comment on how they liked the frank discussions the characters had.
7. Tell us about your latest release or what you’re working on now.

My latest stand alone release is Succubus Games but I have a short story in the Vanilla-Free Christmas anthology from Evernight.

[Editor’s note: Succubus Steam is out!] I’ve contracted for another succubus story in Evernight’s Romance on the Go line called “Succubus Steam” tentatively scheduled for release in January 2013. This will be the third in “The Succubus Chronicles”, a collection of unrelated erotic romances about succubi in different settings and time periods. I love writing about succubi and also have a collection of horror shorts about them I plan to self-publish (because horror erotica is a tough sell with publishers, especially in a collection). I also have several more succubus romances planned, probably ROTG length as well.
